Unlike conventional flexible endoscopes, which require two hands—one to stabilize the shaft and another to articulate the tip—Outlook Surgical’s hybrid design eliminates the need for articulation. By attaching directly to the instrument, the Inova 1 allows surgeons to operate both the scope and instrument with one hand, freeing the other hand for additional tools and improving efficiency.

In contrast, existing rigid scopes require continuous manual control, limiting the user to one instrument at a time. By integrating the Inova 1 endoscope with an instrument or rigid attachment sleeve, surgeons gain a more versatile and streamlined solution that optimizes workflow.

Innovative Design Features

The hybrid endoscope system features a chip-in-the-tip design with built-in fiber optic LED lighting, integrating the sensor directly at the tip. This eliminates the need for a bulky external camera head, an external light post, or a secondary lighting console. The self-contained LED lighting also makes the scope significantly lighter and thinner than other models on the market.

A standout feature is the digital rotation ring at the back of the scope, which allows users to reorient the image once the scope is attached to an instrument—a capability unavailable in other systems.

Additionally, the hybrid endoscope system uses a single-wire connection that plugs into a compact control box.

“The control box is highly portable—small enough to fit in a pocket—and can display images directly on its built-in screen,” says Dr. Noyes. “It can also connect to any HDMI monitor via a wired connection or transmit the image wirelessly to any screen.”

This versatility allows users to adapt to various settings without the need for bulky towers or costly equipment. Because no computer is involved, wireless functionality operates without requiring an internet connection or password login.

Small, Adaptable, and Portable

The Inova 1’s compact size, lightweight design, and streamlined functionality set it apart from traditional systems. Designed for adaptability, it can attach to third-party instruments and devices, enabling ENT specialists to perform endoscopic procedures in various settings, including emergency rooms or at the patient’s bedside.

Whether removing a foreign body from the nose, performing a throat biopsy, or examining a sinus, the hybrid endoscope system simplifies these procedures without relying on the bulky endoscopy towers required by conventional systems.

The system can connect to various tools, such as a tonsillectomy coblation wand, Eustachian tube balloon catheter, surgical forceps, suction cautery, or posterior nasal nerve ablation device. Most third-party devices will integrate seamlessly with Outlook Surgical’s endoscope via a simple clip-on adapter. Once regulatory approval is obtained, these device compatibilities will enable surgeons to enhance their workflow without investing in entirely new systems, thus reducing costs and improving efficiency.

Familiar Yet Improved Technology

Endoscopes have been standard in surgical procedures for over 40 years, and the Inova 1 builds on this familiar technology to improve usability without introducing entirely new methods. The only real learning curve involves attaching the scope to a device.
