AI Excels at Image Recognition
Where image analysis is vital to disease diagnosis and treatment, AI has gained popularity. Radiology, pathology, dermatology, and ophthalmology are at the forefront of AI research.
AI-based systems, also known as deep-learning computers, are trained using numerous eye images. The algorithms are taught to distinguish between normal and abnormal photos. Researchers have already evaluated AI-based systems employing—retinal scans to identify patients at risk for cardiovascular disease, and x-ray pictures can aid in diagnosing pediatric pneumonia.

Cameras for Diabetic Retinopathy Detection
Diabetes affects more than 29 million American citizens. People with diabetes are susceptible to diabetic retinopathy, a potentially blinding eye condition. However, vision impairments are typically not noticeable in the early stages of the disease. There are not enough ophthalmologists worldwide to treat everyone who requires diabetic eye tests.
This is where technologies such as the IDx-DR can assist. The IDx-DR is the first AI-based gadget authorized by the FDA to diagnose diabetic retinopathy. It can be utilized by primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals. IDx-DR analyzes retinal camera-captured pictures of the eye. The program informs the physician if an ophthalmologist should evaluate a patient.
