Butterfly Network Rolls Out Mobile Ultrasound Device Butterfly iQ+
The new Butterfly iQ+ is a big step forward for point-of-care ultrasound, with the most advanced chip ever and amazing innovations and improvements.
FREMONT, CA: Butterfly Network releases a new generation of its popular mobile ultrasound device. The new Butterfly iQ+ features better imaging abilities, improved ergonomics, and longer battery life. Clinicians can use the portable, handheld ultrasound in several situations and clinical fields to image the lungs, bladder, and other organs and tissues. It has Needle Viz technology that helps with imaging a needle during in-plane guided procedures.
The ultrasound is the size of a conventional transducer, and it depends on a smartphone for the controls and displays the images generated. The company’s Ultrasound-on-Chip technology creates little noise while using less amount of electricity. A new field-programmable gate array that feeds on little energy helps to keep the battery functioning longer. Overall, Butterfly Networks promises a 20 percent greater battery life, and the latest ultrasound can even function twice as long as the previous generation when used in specified presets.
To enhance the image, the Butterfly iQ+ leverages digital micro-beam forming right on the chip to improve frame rates by 15 percent and achieve a 60 [ercent higher frequency of pulse repetition. The entire probe is 10 percent shorter, and its probe head is 15 percent smaller than the previous generation Butterfly iQ. Since it is estimated to be used throughout the day by clinicians visiting multiple patients, the new device has been tested to MIL-STD-810G, faring well after 4-foot drops and witnessing 100G shock pulses. It is also rated at IP67 for resilience from dust and water.
Previously, Butterfly released the world’s first handheld, single-probe, whole-body ultrasound system. Medical professionals have used the device across the globe with significant clinical, economic, and societal impact from then on. The company has collaborated with the Butterfly community of users to define its innovation path.
