Using a microdebrider has many benefits such as faster, more accurate, and less traumatic surgery for the patient.
Among the most useful technological advancements used in rhinology is the microdebrider, first utilized in orthopedic and plastic surgical procedures. It gets employed for many years during tonsillectomies, endoscopic sinus operations, and nasal surgeries. Using a microdebrider has benefits such as faster, more accurate, and less traumatic surgery for the patient.
The microdebrider is a tubular instrument with hollow tubes. The blade slices the tissue that has to get removed at the tip of the tube as it oscillates back and forth. The speed of the blades increases with the size of the chopped pieces. Larger pieces get produced by slower blade action. The tissue slices are big enough for histopathology and many other uses. The blade gets fitted with only a suction mechanism that continuously draws the tissue from the surgical area to be cut and removed.
Microdebriders provide several benefits:
● Reduced operation time
Even if a microdebrider doesn't reduce the chance of bleeding, constant suction keeps the surgical site clean and improves visibility for the surgeon during the surgery. In addition, it takes less time to swap between pieces of equipment, which saves the surgeon time. Additionally, the treatment will go faster with less blood loss if cauterization gets added to the equipment.
● A variety of tips for improved access and precision
Depending on the process, several types of tips can be employed. Pre-bent tips, for example, offer more accessible access to challenging surgical areas (like paranasal sinuses). Some information, such as the Straightshot M4, additionally allows for 360-degree rotation, allowing more precise approaches to the tissue to get eliminated.
● Blades that can get adjusted for more accuracy
A variety of blades can get utilized. Straight-edged blades are far more exact than other blades and might be less painful. Serrated blades offer the surgeon a greater grip. The speed at which the blades get employed may be changed to improve cutting precision and to cut bone.
Microdebriders and blades are more expensive than standard tools. Microdebriders, on the other hand, result in shorter, more precise, and less painful procedures for the patient when utilized with correct training and safety.
