It is now testing the technology against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). In parallel, e4life is focused on combating animal viruses like Avian flu, Swine flu and African Swine Flu (ASF) and exploring the technology’s efficacy against bacteria. This broadening scope promises significant benefits for both human and animal health.

Backing e4life’s rapid ascent are two global giants. ELT Group, a world leader in electronic defence systems with over 70 years of expertise, holds a 51 percent stake and IP rights. Lendlease, known for its major urban regeneration projects, owns the remaining 49 percent. Together, these powerful shareholders have been pivotal in e4life’s swift progress since its inception.

How Resonance Technology Transforms Air Sanitisation

The e4shield technology is based on a well-known physical phenomenon—resonance. Every virus has an internal positive charge and an external negative charge. By harnessing the right electromagnetic waves, e4life’s technology exploits this charge difference to create oscillations that destroy the virus’s outer shell. Once this shell is compromised, the virus becomes incapable of infecting human cells.

The pioneering research behind this innovation was first published in the scientific journal ‘Nature’ by a team from Taiwan. They detailed how electromagnetic waves could alter the shape of viruses, hinting at the potential to make airborne viruses sensitive to these waves. Inspired by this research, the engineering team from ELT Group, through rigorous study, identified the right frequency and power needed to induce a resonance effect that disrupts the virus’s external shell.

Extensive laboratory tests and real-world applications have allowed e4life to fine-tune the optimal combination of frequency and power for different types of viruses. The work has been recognised even by the European Commission (EC), which speaks volumes about the technology’s effectiveness in reducing the risk of respiratory viruses indoors.

The technology has been validated by the Celio Military Hospital, the independent contract testing lab ViroStatics and Milan University, and its effectiveness has been described in two articles published by “Viruses” and by the “European Society of Medicine.”

Innovative Devices for Virus-Free Air

e4life has introduced two incredible devices that bring cutting-edge technology right into our daily lives. First is e4life personal. This handy device is designed to offer continuous protection on the move. Since it has EC and SAR certifications, just like mobile phones, it is safe to be kept close to the body 24/7. The device operates at a power level that is too low to penetrate the skin but creates a protective shield with a three-meter diameter that lasts about eight hours.

The other device is e4life ambient. It can be mounted on ceilings or walls and covers about 50 square meters, which makes it ideal for homes, offices, hospitals or any crowded space. e4life helps hospitals maintain a virus-free environment with this device.

In one hospital, while sophisticated sanitising solutions are used in surgery rooms, e4life’s ambient devices provide an added layer of protection in common areas and waiting rooms.

Another hospital in Florence has adopted the solution in their paediatrics department and distributed e4life’s personal devices to all clinical and non-clinical staff, ensuring protection for both healthcare workers and patients.

e4life is now working on developing wearable devices in a stride to make its technology more user-friendly. At the same time, a more powerful version of the e4life ambient device that can cover approximately 150 square metres, is underway. It would be suited for larger public spaces like stations and malls.

e4life has also collaborated with a car manufacturer to integrate its devices into vehicles and has developed a custom solution for a railway company to install the devices in train coaches.

A similar focus on animal health is evident in the company’s efforts to expand its technology to make the air virus-free on animal farms. The tests managed so far have confirmed an inactivation rate of about 90 percent for Avian Flu and Swine Flu. These new industrial devices have been designed and will be produced (from October) for the unique farm environment, providing the right frequencies to protect animals against respiratory viruses—which have structural similarities to human flu viruses. Efficacy tests against ASF are underway, in collaboration with an Italian Public Institute.
