Ergonomic Intraoral Cold Therapy Device

A few years ago, David Yoskowitz, founder and CEO of Denta-Cool, suffered from persistent mouth sores due to cancer treatment. Consuming food and even drinking water triggered pain inside his mouth, and the external ice packs provided no significant relief. Back then, no cryotherapy or cold therapy product existed that cooled the mouth from the inside. This motivated David to create an innovative design that allowed ice packs to be directly applied to inflamed areas. “One day, a couple of years after I had recovered, I woke up with the idea for an intraoral cold therapy device. Thus, Denta-Cool was born,” David states. The Denta-Cool mouthpiece is a groundbreaking oral cryotherapy device specifically designed to contour the shape of the mouth to effectively reduce oral pain and swelling from the inside.

While the inner chamber of Denta-Cool is filled with filtered water that freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, the outer chamber consists of a proprietary liquid formula with a lower freezing point. As a result, the external chamber stays flexible even when the mouthpiece is frozen and provides comfortable, extended cooling to the entire oral cavity. Thanks to this innovative ergonomic design, Denta-Cool comfortably fits inside the mouth of most adults and is also suitable for people with sensitive teeth. Two breathing tubes inside the device enable patients to breathe normally during their cold therapy sessions. Furthermore, continuous circulation of the cold liquid between the internal and external parts assures that the mouthpiece sustains its low temperature for a longer period of time. “According to our internal study conducted in 2017, the device stays cold for a minimum of 30 minutes before it needs to be refrozen; it can be reused multiple times,” David adds.

Denta-Cool’s internal study to test its device’s performance and effectiveness focused on recording the heat distribution in patients’ mouths before and after the mouthpiece was used. The survey included 12 people in a room maintained at 70 degrees Fahrenheit, where they held the device in their mouths for 30 minutes. The intraoral thermal scans prior to the mouthpiece’s insertion and immediately after it was removed showed that Denta-Cool worked efficiently by impacting the entire oral cavity. The mouthpiece lowered the temperature in patients’ mouths to an average of 63.3 degrees Fahrenheit, cooling them uniformly for up to 30 minutes.

While Denta-Cool is working with various certified dentists to delineate a complete list of its device’s benefits, several institutions plan to include the Denta-Cool mouthpiece in their clinical studies. The company aims to become a global leader in intraoral cryotherapy and help millions of people in the US and around the world recover swiftly after major dental procedures. “We look forward to introducing Denta-Cool in every dental and maxillofacial surgeon’s office in the United States over the next three years,” David concludes.
