One of the quiet frustrations inside rehabilitation is that patients can look successful in therapy long before they are truly ready for everyday movement. Walking across a flat clinical floor is one thing. Climbing the stairs at home, stepping onto an uneven curb or navigating a sloped driveway without hesitation is something else entirely.
Hospitals and rehabilitation centers are paying closer attention to that gap because discharge readiness is increasingly tied to functional confidence, not just basic mobility benchmarks. A patient may technically regain strength, but if they still avoid stairs or struggle with balance changes, independence remains limited after they leave the facility.
For rehabilitation teams, that has shifted the conversation around equipment purchasing.
