Chest pain is a common symptom and one of the leading causes of doctor visits. For most, the next step is a series of diagnostic tests, which can take months, and sometimes also be invasive, to determine whether the person has coronary artery disease (CAD) or not. In 9 out of 10 cases, the person does not have CAD. It not only adds a huge cost burden associated with the number of tests but also delays in healthcare delivery and patient concerns. The question, therefore, remains: how can healthcare professionals quickly and correctly distinguish patients with CAD from the rest? Enter Acarix.

In collaboration with Denmark-based Aalborg University, Acarix has developed CADScor®System—an innovative, ultrasensitive, and non-invasive diagnostic tool that listens to the blood flow in the coronary arteries and calculates their CAD-score. Helen Ljungdahl Round, CEO of Acarix, explains that in CAD, plaque build-up in the arteries disrupts the blood flow and causes a murmur and turbulence. Acarix’s CADScor®System uses innovative acoustic technology (ultrasensitive phonocardiography) to detect abnormalities in the myocardial movement and blood flow, including sounds that cannot be registered by a human ear or a stethoscope and leverage AI algorithms to calculate a person’s risk of having CAD. Due to such high precision capabilities, the CADScor®System can rule out patients with low risk for CAD with a high degree of certainty, allowing physicians to either detect or rule out CAD conditions in 10 minutes.

If our CADScor®System shows an individual’s score of 20 or below, they are deemed low CAD risk, and if the score is above 20, they are considered to be elevated risk patients and are put under further observation.This can enable healthcare professionals to rule out patients at low risk early in the diagnosis and focus on those that need care,” explains Helen Ljungdahl Round.

Equally commendable is the usability factor of the CADScor®System.
It comes with a reusable device comprised of microphones and microprocessors, software, and a touch display, along with disposable single-use patches. When a patient’s CAD score needs to be measured, physicians attach the disposable patches to the device and place the system on the patient’s chest. In less than 10 minutes, the health care professional and the patient get the result of the patient’s CAD risk. Such ease of assessment helps doctors accurately triage patients with chest pain early, before selecting a treatment mode and save time significantly. This offers peace of mind to patients as well. When they develop chest pain, the fear of it being related to CAD is always in the back of the mind. So CADScor®System not only helps the at-risk patient get quicker results but also provides quick mental relief to patients without CAD.

Acarix announces the initiation of the first US-based clinical workflow evaluation study

NEW YORK - Acarix, announces the initiation of the first US-based clinical study to collect real-world data to compare workflows between traditional stress tests and the CADScor System. The focus is on identifying non-obstructive Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) in chest pain patients, with the ultimate goal of improving discharge from Emergency Departments and Clinics in the United States.
The clinical study will collect data from 200 patients at the University of California, Davis, being assessed for chest pain in both the emergency department and outpatient cardiology clinic. The study will assess the potential improvement in cost-effectiveness, time savings, and reduction in side effects by utilizing the CADScor System to identify non-obstructive coronary artery disease in chest pain patients compared to traditional stress imaging tests. Patient enrollment for the study will commence in early Q2 2024, marking a crucial step forward in advancing our understanding of the CADScor System in various clinical workflows in the United States.
