Surgical navigation is transforming the way surgeons view anatomy and perform complex procedures. Traditional navigation systems show the position of the surgical tools with respect to the medical images, aiding surgeons to have a spatial understanding of the work. To the concept of autonomous surgical navigation, emerging autonomous systems interpret anatomical information, track instruments and support the selected surgical actions with minimal user input.
