JUNE Medical unveils the new LUX Connect in vivo illuminator in partnership with LUMITEX.
FREMONT, CA: JUNE Medical's collaboration with LUMITEX has led to the development of the new LUX Connect in vivo illuminator. The LUX Connect can be immediately connected to an existing light source, giving consistent illumination during a surgical procedure. This ground-breaking equipment can be used in conjunction with the award-winning Galaxy II retractor, revolutionizing surgical practice in critical fields such as orthopedics and gynecology.
The Galaxy II LUX Connect was inspired by procedures performed in Uganda by the charity Birth Aid, which JUNE Medical has long sponsored. After learning about the difficulties surgeons have in Africa in obtaining reliable light sources for fistula treatments and hearing anecdotes about surgeons resorting to utilizing smartphone torches, the innovation team at JUNE Medical set out to create a better solution. The tool is designed for open wound surgery and is lightweight with a tiny diameter and bendable with no minimum radius, allowing for continuous hands-free illumination. The Galaxy II LUX Connect can provide brilliant yet diffuse light for visualizing deep cavities without generating heat. The tool's bifurcated form provides light coverage at two places, resulting in dual-angle illumination that eliminates shadows and reduces glare, which can tax the eyes during extended sessions. The illuminator connects to current standard light sources and does not require batteries, which means it will offer consistent, high-quality illumination throughout the treatment without requiring battery disposal. The Galaxy II LUX Connect will be available in the United States in September and in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world in October. This single-use device is pre-sterilized and ready for use, and it may be discarded following surgery.
Angela Spang, CEO at JUNE Medical, explains, “Surgeons need a flexible light source that they can trust, which is easily adaptable and provides reliable illumination. I am proud to say that JUNE Medical has met this challenge and can provide a solution, in the form of high-quality illumination, to operating theatres all over the globe.”
